About the event
Prevention Institute and the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health present: Young Minds Matter Conference 2021 Since 2010, the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health has hosted a free biennial conference in Houston focusing on children’s mental health topics. Workshop topics include implicit bias in schools, dismantling the School to Prison Pipeline, youth panels addressing critical issues, and more! This year, you can virtually connect with others through art, community-building, and healing activities to strengthen and improve the mental health and wellbeing of families in the greater Houston area and across Texas.
The YMM 2021 Conference Series will: Virtually connect with others through art, community-building, and healing activities to strengthen and improve the mental health and well-being of families in the greater Houston area and across Texas.
Learning Objectives By attending, participants will be able to:
- Engage in candid and productive discussions about how structural inequities (caused by unfair practices and policies) and racism impact the mental well-being of children and youth of color.
- Demonstrate the power of engaging historically excluded groups (people and communities who have typically been left out of the conversation but most impacted by the decisions made about them) in all aspects of multisector, collaborative work.
- Explore "upstream" community approaches to strengthen entire community healing, connection, and justice.
- Identify barriers and strategies to lift-up the voices of youth and residents as the decisionmakers and leaders of their community.
